(STATS) – UC Davis has rewarded coach Dan Hawkins for the best season in its Division I history with a two-year contract extension through the 2023 season, athletic director Kevin Blue said Wednesday.
Hawkins won the 2018 STATS FCS Eddie Robinson Award as the national coach of the year. The Aggies went 10-3 in their 100th season, winning a share of the Big Sky Conference title and qualifying for the FCS playoffs, where they beat Northern Iowa and reached the national quarterfinals – all firsts for the program.
Hawkins has a 15-9 record in two seasons at his alma mater.
Said Hawkins upon winning the Robinson Award: “We have really talented players – it all starts there – a talented staff, but none of that happens, or comes together unless you have leadership that says, ‘We can work together to create one of the best academic schools in the country, and we can have success in sports.’ They are not mutually exclusive from one another.”
UC Davis also announced some coaching promotions. Quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator Tim Plough will add the role of associate head coach, offensive line coach Tim Keane will become the program’s new running game coordinator, and Jerry Brady and Cody Hawkins (Dan’s son) will each be named assistant directors of football operations and recruiting in addition to their position coaching duties.
