Oddsmakers currently have the Panthers listed as 4½-point favorites versus the Texans, while the game’s total is sitting at 41½.

Carolina limited Jacksonville to 265 total yards of offense and shut out the Jaguars in the second half last week. Once again, Cam Newton was the focal point of the offense, passing for 175 yards and running for 35 more. Tight end Greg Olsen caught just one pass for 11 yards last week and he may not get much more involved in the passing game this week as he will bear some of the responsibility of blocking Texans star lineman J.J. Watt.

Last time out for Carolina, they were a 20-9 winner as they battled the Jaguars on the road. The Panthers covered in the match as a -3-point favorite, while 29 combined points moved the game UNDER for totals bettors.

Team record: 1-0 SU,1-0 ATS
Carolina is 6-1 SU in its last 7 games
The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Carolina’s last 6 games
Carolina is 12-5 SU in its last 17 games at home
The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Carolina’s last 6 games at home

Hoyer was 18-for-34 for 236 yards with a touchdown and an interception last week, but he will be benched in favor of Mallett, who “added a spark to our team,” according to O’Brien. Mallett finished 8-for-13 with a touchdown in relief, but the biggest problem for Houston was its highly touted defense, which was gashed for 106 yards and a pair of scores by tight end Travis Kelce and fell behind 27-6 in the first half. Alfred Blue rushed for 42 yards in place of the injured Arian Foster, who is reportedly way ahead of schedule in his recovery from groin surgery but is unlikely to play this week.

Houston lost its last outing, a 27-20 result against the Chiefs on September 13. The Texans failed to cover in that game as a +1-point underdog, while the 47 combined points took the game OVER the total.

Team record: 0-1 SU,0-1 ATS
Houston is 4-2 SU in its last 6 games
Houston is 4-1-1 ATS in its last 6 games on the road
Houston is 5-14 SU in its last 19 games on the road
The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Houston’s last 6 games on the road
