The Philadelphia 76ers threw their chips on the table with a blockbuster trade this weekend and hope it creates a spark when they visit the struggling Miami Heat on Monday night. The 76ers sent two of their top five scorers in Dario Saric and Robert Covington (fourth and fifth), along with Jerryd Bayless, to Minnesota in a deal for shooting guard Jimmy Butler on Saturday and the All-Star could make his debut in Miami.

“I think he’s going to help us a lot – offensively and especially defensively, too,” Philadelphia’s leading scorer Joel Embiid told reporters. “I think he’s one of the best defensive players in the league. I’m excited to see where he takes us and how much better we’re going to look.” The 76ers, who defeated the Heat in five games during the first round of the 2017-18 playoffs, dropped a 112-106 decision against Memphis on Saturday to open a three-game trip that ends Wednesday in Orlando. Miami has lost its past two games at home and five of the last seven overall as it continues to struggle on the defensive end after finishing fourth in the league in points per contest allowed in 2017-18. “We had moments where we competed defensively. We had other moments that I didn’t recognize our team,” Miami coach Erik Spoelstra told reporters after a 116-110 loss to Washington on Saturday. “That’s what we’re dealing with right now is finding some level of consistency to things that matter to us.”

ABOUT THE 76ERS (8-6): Embiid, averaging 27.7 points along with 13.1 rebounds, told reporters he is sure Butler is willing to fit in and chemistry will be a big factor with three players already averaging 15 points – including Ben Simmons (17.4) and JJ Redick (15.0). “Our culture is winning, playing together as a team and playing hard,” Simmons told the media. “I think he’s going to bring that.” Embiid hopes to rebound from a 4-for-15 shooting performance against Memphis while Redick is just 6-for-28 from 3-point range in the past four contests, but Simmons is averaging 19 points in a four-game span.

ABOUT THE HEAT (5-7): Guard Goran Dragic (16.1 points, second on the team) returned from a two-game absence due to knee inflammation Saturday, but missed all seven shots from the field and did not score. Josh Richardson leads the way for Miami at 20.8 points per contest and is averaging 23 in November while center Hassan Whiteside has registered 18.3 points and 18 rebounds per game in the last three. Veteran Dwyane Wade could miss his fourth straight game to be with his wife for the birth of their child, but fellow guard Rodney McGruder is coming off a season-high 22-point effort against Washington.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Miami F Kelly Olynyk averaged 12.7 points in three regular-season games against the 76ers last season and 12.8 in the playoffs.

2. Philadelphia also acquired C Justin Patton, a former first-round pick, in the Butler deal but he is out with a foot injury.

3. Whiteside leads the league with 3.55 blocks per game and sits second in rebounding (15.5).

PREDICTION: 76ers 112, Heat 104
