Oddsmakers currently have the NY YANKEES listed as point favorites versus the SAN DIEGO, while the game’s total is sitting at .
The New York Yankees will try to bounce back from a rare loss when they host the San Diego Padres in a Memorial Day matinee. The Yankees won their first six games of a seven-game road trip before falling 8-7 at Kansas City on Sunday, just their second loss in the last 13 games.
Gleyber Torres stayed hot with his 13th homer – a three-run shot – and New York produced 11 hits in the loss, its eighth in 25 games on the road. The Padres were surging as well before a 10-1 loss at Toronto on Sunday, snapping a five-game winning streak. Shortstop Manny Machado, whose much-publicized free agency saw him flirt with the high-cost Yankees before settling in San Diego, went 1-for-4 in the loss and has gone 11 straight games without recording multiple hits. He and his teammates will take aim at a fill-in starter for the Yankees, while lefty Matt Strahm goes for San Diego.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Padres LH Matt Strahm (2-3, 3.06 ERA) vs. TBD
Strahm has allowed a total of 12 earned runs in 47 1/3 innings over his last eight starts, picking up a win last time out with six strong frames against Arizona. He did not walk a batter in that outing for the fifth time in his last seven starts. The 27-year-old has tossed three scoreless innings of relief in his career against the Yankees.
Monday would have been CC Sabathia’s slot, but the veteran lefty hit the injured list with a knee injury last week. Right-hander David Hale, who allowed one run in four innings of relief last Tuesday at Baltimore, is a candidate to start the series opener. New York also has not named a starter for Wednesday’s contest but it hopes to get lefty James Paxton (knee) back for that one after he successfully went through a workout Sunday.
WALK-OFFS
1. San Diego last visited the Bronx in 2008 at the old Yankee Stadium.
2. Padres 1B Eric Hosmer is 9-for-19 with two homers and six RBIs during a five-game hitting streak.
3. San Diego rookie RHP Chris Paddack (neck) was scratched from Sunday’s start and is expected to start Wednesday’s series finale.
