The Arizona Diamondbacks will try to put their struggles at home behind them when they host the San Francisco Giants on Friday in the opener of a three-game series. Arizona is 3-4 on its 10-game homestand and 10-11 at Chase Field this season after winning two of three from Pittsburgh and dropping three of four to Atlanta prior to meeting San Francisco for the first time this season.

Arizona (24-20) hopes to have David Peralta (.318 average) in the lineup Friday after he left Wednesday’s game with right trap tightness, but manager Torey Lovullo told reporters that the right fielder would be OK after some time in the training room. The Giants (18-24), who have been outscored 46-6 in the first inning this season, are coming off a two-game split with Toronto and own a four-series winless streak (0-1-3). San Francisco’s Brandon Belt (right knee inflammation) could return to the lineup after he was rested Wednesday before Thursday’s off-day. The Giants’ Jeff Samardzija carries a three-game no-decision streak into Friday’s start and opposes rookie Merrill Kelly, who faces San Francisco for the first time.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants RH Jeff Samardzija (2-1, 3.51 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks RH Merrill Kelly (3-4, 4.70)

Samardzija hasn’t pitched more than five innings in any of his last three starts after allowing three runs, five hits and three walks with five strikeouts in four frames of San Francisco’s 5-4 loss to Cincinnati on Saturday. The 34-year-old Indiana native has received no-decisions in five of his eight starts this season with the Giants winning three of those five games. Peralta is 1-for-15 with a solo home run and five strikeouts against Samardzija, who is 3-4 with a 4.12 ERA in 17 games (12 starts) versus the Diamondbacks.

Kelly suffered his second straight loss after yielding three runs and eight hits while striking out five over seven innings of a 6-4 loss to Atlanta on Friday. It was the fourth quality start in eight turns this season for the 30-year-old Arizona native, who has permitted eight home runs among 49 hits in 46 innings. Kelly is 1-2 with a 3.20 ERA in four home starts compared to 2-2 and 6.53 on the road.

2. Arizona leads baseball with 176 extra-base hits and also paces the majors with 86 runs in the seventh inning or later.

3. The clubs have alternated season series victories over the last five years after San Francisco won 11-8 in 2018.
