CLEVELAND (AP) Los Angeles Angels manager Mike Scioscia has dismissed a report that he’s stepping down after this season, calling it ”just chatter” and ”poppycock.”
Scioscia, who has managed the Angels since 2000, said before Sunday’s series finale against the Indians that he won’t talk about his future with the club until the season ends.
Following Saturday’s game, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, citing unnamed sources, reported that Scioscia is expected to step down following his 19th season with the Angels.
The longest-tenured manager in the majors is under contract only through this season. He signed a 10-year contract in 2008.
The 59-year-old says ”nothing has changed since we talked in October,” referencing his position that he would not address his situation with ownership until the season is over.
Scioscia says he has no idea what is driving the report.
Scioscia, who led the Angels to a World Series title in 2002, says he still loves managing.
