DETROIT (AP) Utilityman Mike Aviles and the Detroit Tigers have agreed on a one-year contract.

The Tigers announced the deal Friday night.

The versatile 34-year-old saw time at six positions for the Cleveland Indians this year, playing 11 games at second base, 28 at third base, 23 at shortstop, 34 in left field, five in center field and one in at right field.

He hit .231 with five homers and 17 RBIs in 98 games.

In eight big league seasons, Aviles is batting .265 with 58 home runs and 292 RBIs for the Kansas City Royals (2008-11), Boston Red Sox (2011-12) and Indians (2013-15).

To create room for Aviles on the 40-man roster, the Tigers designated for assignment left-hander Kyle Lobstein.
