AP Source: Mariners, prospect White reach $24M, 6-year dealBy TIM BOOTH

SEATTLE (AP) A person with knowledge of the deal says the Seattle Mariners are locking up one of their top minor league prospects for the long-term, agreeing to a $24 million, six-year contract with first baseman Evan White before he makes his major league debut.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on Friday on the condition of anonymity because the deal had not been announced. The contract is expected to be finalized sometime next week. MLB.com first reported the agreement.

White has yet to play above Double-A, but the 17th overall pick in the 2017 amateur draft has been regarded as Seattle’s first baseman of the future. White is an excellent defender and his bat isn’t bad either. He hit .293 with 18 homers and 55 RBIs at Double-A Arkansas last season.
