ST. LOUIS (AP) St. Louis scored four runs in the sixth inning to come from behind for the second straight night to beat San Francisco, taking a 6-3 victory.

Aledmys Diaz, Matt Adams and Yadier Molina each drove in a run in the sixth as the Cardinals moved within half a game of second place in the National League Central Division, behind the Chicago Cubs, whose missed a chance to push their lead into double figures when they lost at home against Arizona.

In the American League, Texas pushed its lead over Seattle out to three games with a narrow victory over the Mariners, while Boston lost at home against Toronto to drop into a virtual tie for the lead in the AL East with Boston.

St. Louis went ahead in the sixth via an unlikely source in Molina, who had not had a hit in his previous 20 plate appearances. Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford made an error on the play when he dropped the ball while trying to flip it to second to start a double play.

San Francisco starter Jake Peavy missed a chance at his 150th career victory.

Chicago pitcher Jake Arrieta’s winning streak ended at 20 games when the Cubs lost 3-2 to Arizona.

He had gone 24 regular-season starts without a loss, but was pulled after giving up nine hits in five innings, needing 108 pitches to get that far.

Toronto’s Marco Estrada did not give up a hit until the eighth inning, guiding the Blue Jays past Boston 5-4, costing the Red Sox the outright lead in the AL East.

Chris Young’s homer ended the no-hitter bid and Estrada was lifted after giving up his second hit with a 5-1 lead. It was the third time this season he had been on track for a no-hitter going into the eighth.

Miami’s Jose Fernandez tied a career high with 14 strikeouts in seven scoreless innings as the Marlins avoided a sweep by beating the undermanned New York Mets 1-0.

Fernandez (9-2) won his eighth consecutive start to tie Chris Hammond’s team record, set in the franchise’s first season in 1993. He improved to 23-1 with a 1.53 ERA in 33 career starts at Marlins Park

Mets starter Matt Harvey pitched well for the second outing after a succession of poor starts. He went seven innings, allowed one run, but still took the loss.

Cleveland completed a four-game sweep of Kansas City with a rain-delayed 7-0 victory.

Francisco Lindor hit one of Cleveland’s four solo homers – three of them in the fifth inning – and drove in three runs.

The game was delayed by inclement weather for 3 hours, 10 minutes.

Baltimore also overcame a lengthy rain delay to rally past the New York Yankees 3-1.

Trailing 1-0 in the eighth inning, Baltimore had runners at first and second and one out when play was halted by heavy rain. After a delay of 1 hour, 37 minutes,

Aroldis Chapman entered seeking to earn his 10th save in 10 tries and got one out before allowing a single to load the bases. Matt Wieters then bounced a single up the middle, and a third run scored on the play due to a wild throw to the plate.

Detroit’s Justin Verlander pitched seven strong innings to lead the Tigers past the Chicago White Sox 5-2.

Verlander allowed two homers but got himself out of two major jams.
