A look at the highlights of what’s happening all around spring training in Florida and Arizona on Sunday:
—
A BUM BEGINNING
Giants ace Madison Bumgarner makes his fifth start this spring, taking an 8.64 ERA into the game vs. the Angels. The World Series MVP threw 270 innings last season, prompting some to wonder whether that heavy workload would affect him this year.
HEALTHY MATCHUP
Mets ace Matt Harvey starts against Yankees lefty CC Sabathia in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Both pitchers are coming back from injuries – Harvey spent last year recovering from Tommy John surgery and Sabathia missed the last half after a knee operation.
CLOSING TIME
Brewers closer Francisco Rodriguez makes his first appearance of the spring, pitching against the White Sox. K-Rod was a late arrival to camp because of a visa issue back home in Venezuela.
ONE MORE WORKOUT
Yunel Escobar will test his strained left oblique with a workout for a second straight day. If all goes well, the Nationals’ second baseman will make his spring debut Monday against the New York Yankees.
CALL TO THE `PEN
Arizona reliever Brad Ziegler is scheduled to pitch for first time this spring in a game against the Rockies. Ziegler is trying to come back from microfracture knee surgery.
