A look at what’s happening all around the major leagues today:
TRY AGAIN
Mat Latos makes his fifth start for the Dodgers, still aiming for his first win with the NL West leaders. He is 0-2 with a 6.05 ERA in those four outings since being traded from Miami to LA. He starts on the road against San Diego.
SKIDDING
The Braves will try to end their eight-game losing streak when they visit Washington. Rookie Matt Wisler starts against Nationals righty Jordan Zimmermann. Atlanta has dropped 19 of 22 overall and is 25 games under .500 for first time in 25 years.
PACKING UP
Kyle Gibson and the Twins host the White Sox in their finale at Target Field before a nine-game road trip. Competing for the second AL wild-card spot, Minnesota is set to visit division leaders Houston and Kansas City and then the White Sox.
CHECK HIM
The Cubs might find out more about rookie Kyle Schwarber’s right rib soreness. The outfielder was scratched from Wednesday’s game and sent for more tests. Chicago holds the second spot in the NL wild-card race and has a day off.
SIDE WORK
Nationals right-hander Stephen Strasburg will throw an extended bullpen session, and will skip his scheduled start Friday at home against Atlanta. He was limited to four innings by upper back tightness his last outing. There’s no set date when Strasburg, 8-6 with a 4.35 ERA, will start again.
