Mariners ace Hernandez hit in pitching arm by liner, exits

MESA, Ariz. (AP) Seattle Mariners ace Felix Hernandez has been hit in his pitching arm by a line drive and forced to leave a spring training game.

Hernandez was struck around the elbow of his right arm Monday by a shot from Victor Caratini of the Chicago Cubs.

Hernandez immediately grabbed his arm, went down to a knee, hopped up and walked around in obvious pain. He headed to the dugout with a trainer holding his arm.

The 31-year-old Hernandez was slowed by shoulder trouble last season. The 2010 AL Cy Young Award winner was 6-5 with a 4.36 ERA in 16 starts.
