MLB raises money for field in memory of Shannon Forde

NEW YORK (AP) Major League Baseball and its affiliates raised more than $235,000 to fund Shannon Forde Field in Little Falls, New Jersey, in memory of the late New York Mets public relations executive.

MLB Advanced Media, the MLB Network and all 30 teams participated in last week’s online auction of memorabilia and meetings with current and former players and announced the results Monday.

Tickets to next year’s All-Star week in Miami, including a meet-and-greet with Hall of Famer Joe Torre, went for a top price of more than $20,000. Two ”intern for a day” experiences with the Mets sold for $15,425 and dinner with SNY announcers Ron Darling, Keith Hernandez and Gary Cohen for $13,575.

Other high prices were for a Baltimore spring training workout and lunch with Brady Anderson ($7,075), a ”Dream Day” at Chicago’s Wrigley Field ($6,275) and a meet-and-greet with the Los Angeles Angels’ Mike Trout and Mike Scioscia ($6,150).

Renovations to the field will include dugouts with protective fencing and benches, perimeter fencing, bleachers, a backstop, a scoreboard and field signs.

Forde died in March at 44 from breast cancer.
