TORONTO (AP) Baltimore’s Adam Jones hit a three-run homer in the 12th inning to seal a 6-2 win for the Orioles at Toronto on Sunday, leapfrogging the Blue Jays back to the top of the American League East division.
The Orioles ended a season-worst run of five successive losses and retook the summit in the tightest division in the majors.
Elsewhere, San Francisco downed Washington in a meeting of National League division leaders, the Chicago Cubs beat Seattle on a squeeze bunt with two outs in the 12th inning, and Miami edged St. Louis in a meeting of wildcard rivals.
Baltimore took the lead in the top of the 12th when Pedro Alvarez walked and moved to second on a pitcher’s balk. He scored on Jonathan Schoop’s single and Jones followed with his 20th homer of the season.
The Orioles had lost their previous five games at Toronto.
San Francisco’s Matt Cain threw five hitless innings for his 100th career victory as the Giants beat Washington 3-1.
Cain struck out five, leaving after 93 pitches.
The Giants remained two games clear in the NL West, ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers, while the Nationals’ advantage at the top of the NL East was trimmed to four games.
The Cubs overcame a 6-3 deficit in the ninth inning and went on to beat Seattle 7-6 after 12.
Addison Russell hit an RBI single and Willson Contreras drove in another run when he hustled down the line to beat the throw to first on a potential double-play.
