BALTIMORE (AP) The Baltimore Orioles have hired Roger McDowell to be their pitching coach.
The 55-year-old McDowell replaces Dave Wallace, who retired after the 2016 season.
McDowell was pitching coach of the Atlanta Braves for 11 years before being fired in October. From 2006-16, the Braves had a 3.88 ERA – fourth-best in the majors.
Before joining the Braves, McDowell was a minor league pitching coach in the Dodgers’ organization.
The Orioles on Tuesday also announced the hiring of Alan Mills as their bullpen coach. Mills replaces Dom Chiti, who took a job with the Braves this month.
Mills spent the past five seasons as a pitching coach in the Orioles organization, including the last two years with Double-A Bowie.
Mills and McDowell were teammates on the 1996 Orioles.
