CHICAGO (AP) The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed right-hander Richard Rodriquez on the 10-day disabled list because of pain in his right shoulder.
The Pirates announced the move before Friday’s series opener against the Chicago Cubs. Manager Clint Hurdle says the shoulder flared up thin the past two days, possibly because of overuse brought on by other pitchers’ inability to finish innings. Rodriguez did not appear in Thursday’s loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers but pitched in the previous four games.
Hurdle says the Pirates were being ”proactive” and trying to ”settle him down” by placing him on the DL.
Rodriguez is 1-2 with a 2.38 ERA in 22 relief appearances. Pittsburgh also called up right-hander Dovydas Neverauskas from Triple-A Indianapolis.
