Robinson singles in 7th for Nationals' 1st hit against Mets

NEW YORK (AP) Clint Robinson has singled with two outs in the seventh inning for the Washington Nationals’ first hit against the New York Mets.

Jonathon Niese, the fourth pitcher used by the Mets in the regular-season finale Sunday, gave up the hit. Robinson sent a sharp two-hopper up the middle that went between Niese’s legs and caromed off the shin of shortstop Ruben Tejada as he tried to make a sliding stop.

The ball ricocheted into right field, and official scorer Jordan Sprechman ruled it a hit almost immediately.

Just before Robinson’s hit, first baseman Lucas Duda made a diving play to keep the combined no-hitter intact – momentarily.

The game was scoreless in the seventh, one day after Washington ace Max Scherzer pitched a no-hitter against the Mets in the second game of a doubleheader.

Jacob deGrom started for New York in a tuneup for his Game 1 playoff assignment Friday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was pulled after throwing 72 pitches in four innings.

Bartolo Colon and Logan Verrett each tossed a hitless inning of relief before Niese entered in the seventh.
