AP Source: Wolves, Nets discussing Kevin Garnett trade

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – A person with knowledge of the discussions tells The Associated Press that the Timberwolves have had exploratory discussions with the Brooklyn Nets about possibly bringing back Kevin Garnett to Minnesota.

The Wolves and Nets started discussing the possibility in earnest Wednesday, one day before the NBA’s trade deadline. The person requested anonymity because no deal has been agreed upon.

Garnett spent his first 12 years in Minnesota before being traded to Boston, where he won a championship. He is still wildly popular in Minnesota.

He is in the final year of his contract with the Nets, but has a no-trade clause that gives him all the leverage.

The Timberwolves likely would have to part with Thaddeus Young to get Garnett.

ESPN first reported the talks.
