CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) Hornets coach Steve Clifford agreed in principle to a multiyear contract extension Wednesday, with his team 8-6 with an overhauled roster.
The team did not release financial terms for Clifford, who is in his third year with the club.
Clifford has a career record of 84-94 since taking over in 2013. The team went 43-39 in his first season and made the playoffs but was swept in the first round by Miami. Charlotte fell to 33-49 amid a series of injuries last year.
The Hornets have a different look this season because of the additions of Nicolas Batum, Spencer Hawes, Jeremy Lamb and Jeremy Lin. Charlotte, which hosts Washington on Wednesday night, has won its last five at home.
Clifford has 30 years of NBA coaching experience, having spent time as an assistant with the Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets, Orlando Magic and New York Knicks.
