NEW ORLEANS (AP) The New Orleans Pelicans have listed Anthony Davis as a starter in Sunday’s game against Utah, marking the All-Star forward’s return from a sprained left ankle after a one-game absence.
Davis injured his ankle when he landed on Kosta Koufos’ foot while pulling down a rebound during a victory at Sacramento on Wednesday night. He then sat out Friday night against Washington, which handed the Pelicans their first loss in 11 games.
Davis, who turned 25 on Sunday, is averaging 28.1 points, 11.1 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game this season, his sixth in the NBA.
He scored 40 or more points five times during New Orleans’ recent franchise record-tying 10-game winning streak, including a 53-point outing.
New Orleans entered Sunday’s play in fourth place in the Western Conference, but only 2+ games ahead of the ninth-place Jazz.
