Spurs and Celtics? Already eliminated.
Lakers and Heat? Didn’t even make the playoffs.
There’s a new look to this NBA postseason, which will crown a champion that hasn’t won the title in at least 17 years – and, quite possibly, a franchise that has never been on top.
Of the eight conference semifinalists, the Chicago Bulls are the most recent NBA champion, claiming the last of six Michael Jordan-era titles in 1998. Houston is the only other multiple champion still playing, going back to back in 1994-95.
Washington and Golden State each won their only championship in the 1970s. The Hawks took a title in St. Louis, but not since moving to Atlanta in 1968. Memphis, Cleveland, and the Los Angeles Clippers are all looking for their first banners.
