Bears release Ray McDonald after arrest in California

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – The Chicago Bears have released defensive end Ray McDonald following a domestic violence arrest in Northern California that police say stemmed from him assaulting a woman who was holding a baby.

Santa Clara police Lt. Kurt Clarke reports that McDonald was arrested at 7 a.m. Monday on suspicion of domestic violence and child endangerment.

It was not immediately known if the woman or the baby were injured.

Bears General Manager Ryan Pace released a statement saying McDonald did not meet the expectations set out for him when he was signed.

His agent Tom Condon did not return calls for comment.

In December, the 49ers released McDonald.

Last year, McDonald was accused in a separate domestic violence incident during August birthday party at his Northern California home. A different woman has also accused McDonald of rape. Charges have not been filed.
