ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) With no chance of making the playoffs, the Buffalo Bills made a series of moves to address their banged-up roster on Tuesday.
Receiver Robert Woods and linebacker Randell Johnson were placed on the season-ending reserve injured list. Starting right tackle Seantrel Henderson was placed on the reserve-non-football illness list, and receiver/returner Marcus Thigpen was cut for a second time by Buffalo this season.
Woods hurt his groin and Johnson hurt his ankle in a 35-25 loss at Washington on Sunday in a game that eliminated Buffalo (6-8) from playoff contention for a 16th straight season. It’s the NFL’s longest active playoff drought, and tied for eighth-longest in league history.
Woods ranks second on the team with 47 catches and 552 yards, and has scored three touchdowns.
Johnson was filling in for injured starter Nigel Bradham, who is expected to return to play against Dallas (4-10) on Sunday after missing three games with a sprained right ankle.
Buffalo filled the open spots on its roster by promoting receivers Dezmin Lewis and Walter Powell, and defensive end Jerel Worthy from its practice squad. The Bills also signed free-agent receiver Greg Salas, who was cut by the Detroit Lions before the start of the season.
Buffalo also signed quarterback Zac Dysert and tight end Jacob Maxwell to its practice squad.
Dysert’s addition comes with Buffalo expected to address its quarterback depth behind starter Tyrod Taylor this offseason.
Former starter EJ Manuel’s long-term status in Buffalo is uncertain after he went 0-2 in two starts this season. Buffalo is also carrying journeyman quarterback Josh Johnson on its roster.
Dysert was a four-year starter at Miami (Ohio), and selected by Denver in the seventh round of the 2013 draft. He spent part of this season on the Houston Texans’ practice squad before being cut last month.
