DELAWARE, Ohio (AP) A former Chicago Bears and Ohio State University football player who authorities say was ordered to leave a bar because he was intoxicated and stumbling has been indicted for allegedly slamming an Ohio sheriff’s deputy arm with a van door.
Thirty-four-year-old Kirk Barton, of Dublin, was indicted Friday in central Ohio’s Delaware County on assault and obstructing official business charges. Both are felony charges.
The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office has said the deputy escorted the 6-foot-6-inch Barton outside the bar to a taxi earlier this month without incident but that Barton couldn’t provide his address. While the deputy and taxi driver determined where he lived, Barton allegedly slammed the van’s sliding door on the deputy’s arm.
Barton’s attorney wasn’t immediately available for comment Saturday.
