NEW ORLEANS (AP) – A judge has ordered prosecutors to provide more information on witnesses and allegations against the co-defendant of former NFL star Darren Sharper in a federal drug and sexual assault case.
Sharper has pleaded guilty to drug and sexual assault cases in multiple jurisdictions. However, his co-defendant in a Louisiana-based federal case, Brandon Licciardi (lih-CHAR’-dee), has pleaded not guilty.
Licciardi, a former sheriff’s deputy in suburban St. Bernard Parish, is charged with joining Sharper in giving women drugs with plans to rape them. He’s also charged with impeding the federal investigation.
Federal prosecutors argued that they’ve given Licciardi enough information. But Judge Jane Triche (trish) Milazzo (mih-LAH’-zoh) ruled Thursday that prosecutors must give defense lawyers information about witnesses and specifics about what information Licciardi is alleged to have withheld from investigators.
