PREDICTION: Braves 5, Diamondbacks 2
Oddsmakers currently have the ARIZONA listed as point favorites versus the ATLANTA, while the game’s total is sitting at .
Brian McCann signed a one-year deal in November to return to the Atlanta Braves, and the veteran catcher has provided tremendous value as his team wraps up a 10-game road trip Sunday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 35-year-old Atlanta native, who played his first nine major-league seasons with the Braves, homered in Saturday’s 6-4 victory and has recorded a hit in 14 of his 18 games while helping guide the team’s young pitching staff.
McCann’s seventh-inning solo shot on Saturday helped lift Atlanta to its second consecutive victory and raise its record to 5-4 on the three-city trek, and Ronald Acuna Jr. went 2-for-5 in his second game since returning to the leadoff spot in the lineup as the Braves reached .500 for the season. Arizona has lost five of its last seven contests following a four-game winning streak, scoring more than three runs just twice in that span while hitting .210 as a team and averaging 10.3 strikeouts per game. David Peralta is 6-for-14 in the series after going 2-for-5 with a double on Saturday, and has gone 13-for-33 with two doubles, a triple, two homers and six RBIs in his last seven contests. Wilmer Flores is swinging a hot bat, going 3-for-4 in Saturday’s victory to raise his average to .432 while collecting 13 RBIs in his last 14 games.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Braves LH Max Fried (4-2, 2.97 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks RH Zack Godley (1-2, 7.49)
Fried gave the Braves a scare when he had to leave Tuesday’s start against the Los Angeles Dodgers after taking a line drive off his pitching hand, but he reported no pain during Friday’s bullpen session and will takes his regular turn on Sunday. The 25-year-old has been one of the better pitchers in the NL through the first six weeks of the season as he entered Saturday tied for third in the league in wins, sixth in ERA and eighth in WHIP (1.093). Fried, who gave up four runs and four hits in one-plus inning against Los Angeles, held Arizona to two runs and seven hits over six frames in a no-decision at Atlanta on April 16.
Arizona turns to Godley after not needing him in relief on Saturday, giving the 29-year-old an opportunity to reclaim a rotation spot after he allowed four or more earned runs in four of his six starts to start the season. He last pitched on Wednesday against Tampa Bay, recording two strikeouts in one scoreless inning of relief just two days after surrendering three runs and four hits in three frames against the Rays. Godley went 1-2 with a 7.58 ERA, 18 walks and five homers allowed in 29 2/3 innings as a starter, posting a 1.719 WHIP while giving up 33 hits.
WALK-OFFS
1. Diamondbacks C Alex Avila, who has been out since April 5 with a strained left quadriceps, was activated from the injured list and went 0-for-3 on Saturday.
2. Braves SS Dansby Swanson extended his on-base streak to a career-best 14 games Saturday, recording a hit in all but one of those contests.
3. Arizona OF Adam Jones belted a pinch-hit solo homer in the seventh inning on Saturday, moving within one RBI of 900 for his career.
