The Houston Astros bounced back from a rare loss in strong fashion and look to build another lengthy winning streak when they continue their four-game set against the visiting Chicago White Sox on Tuesday. Houston had its 10-game run halted in Boston on Sunday but rebounded to post a 3-0 victory in the series opener for its eighth straight win over Chicago.
Brad Peacock registered nine strikeouts over five innings to combine with four relievers on a six-hitter while Jake Marisnick and Tyler White homered for the Astros, who have won 14 of their last 16 games and gone deep in 17 straight – two shy of the club record. Carlos Correa added a sacrifice fly on Monday, giving him RBIs in three straight contests and seven in his last six games. Charles Tilson notched two of the six hits recorded in the opener by Chicago, which has lost three of its last four. The 26-year-old outfielder has hit safely in five of his last six games and 11 of his 14 contests with the White Sox this season.

PITCHING MATCHUP: White Sox RH Dylan Covey (0-2, 4.41 ERA) vs. Astros RH Justin Verlander (7-1, 2.38)
Covey made his third start of the season on Thursday and pitched well but settled for a no-decision against Toronto after giving up two runs – one earned – and two hits in 5 2/3 innings. The 27-year-old Californian has struggled with his control since joining the rotation, issuing 10 walks over 15 frames while registering only six strikeouts. Covey, who never has faced Houston, is 2-16 with a 7.55 ERA in 20 starts and six relief appearances on the road during his career.
Verlander has been the epitome of control this season, walking a total of 16 batters over 64 1/3 innings while recording 77 strikeouts. The 36-year-old former American League MVP has won each of his three starts this month and six of his last seven overall turns, allowing fewer than two runs in five of the victories as well as the loss. Verlander, who has permitted 19 hits over 47 1/3 frames on those seven starts, is 21-13 with four complete games and a 3.71 ERA in 44 career turns versus Chicago.
WALK-OFFS
1. The White Sox have been outscored 27-4 in their last four defeats.
2. Houston OF George Springer (back) and INF Aledmys Diaz (hamstring) both could return to the lineup as early as Tuesday.
3. Chicago activated Eloy Jimenez (ankle), who went 0-for-4 on Monday, from the 10-day injured list and optioned fellow OF Nicky Delmonico to Triple-A Charlotte.
