After the Cincinnati Reds squandered a three-run, first-inning lead on Saturday, Eugenio Suarez took matters into his own hands. The Reds hope to grab an early advantage and keep hold of it on Sunday, when they attempt to complete a sweep of their three-game series against the host San Francisco Giants.

With Cincinnati trailing 4-3, Suarez belted a solo homer in the fifth inning to forge a tie before hitting a leadoff double and scoring on Derek Dietrich’s two-out single in the seventh. The 27-year-old third baseman has gone 8-for-18 during his four-game hitting streak and has hit safely in seven of his last eight contests, recording five home runs and 10 RBIs in that span. While the Reds seek their fourth straight overall victory, San Francisco looks to avoid a fourth consecutive loss after surrendering a total of 24 runs in its last three contests. Steven Duggar went 3-for-4 with two RBIs in Saturday’s setback for his third three-hit performance of May – a month during which he has hit safely in seven of his nine games.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Reds RH Tyler Mahle (0-5, 3.69 ERA) vs. Giants LH Madison Bumgarner (2-4, 3.99)

Mahle has given up fewer than two runs in four of his seven starts this season, including each of his last two, but still is without a victory. The 24-year-old Californian, who will be making his sixth consecutive road start and seventh overall this year, suffered the loss at Oakland on Tuesday despite allowing one run and four hits with one walk and eight strikeouts over five innings. Mahle lost his lone career start versus the Giants on May 15, 2018 in San Francisco, where he surrendered four runs and seven hits in 3 1/3 frames.

Bumgarner could be making one of his final starts for the Giants as the free-agent-to-be reportedly submitted a no-trade list to management that includes eight teams. The 29-year-old native of North Carolina is coming off a victory at Colorado on Tuesday in which he allowed three runs and eight hits over six innings. A former World Series MVP, Bumgarner is 3-5 with one shutout and a 4.21 ERA in nine career starts against Cincinnati.
