PHOENIX (AP) — Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Alex Guerrero left Friday night’s game in the top of the third inning after straining his left calf while running to first base.
Guerrero was brought in to pinch hit with one out in the third, and reached base on an infield single. But he appeared to slow down as he arrived at the bag. After being checked by a trainer, he was replaced by Jimmy Rollins.
Jim Wolf, the home plate umpire to start the game, left after two innings. He was struck squarely in the mask by a foul ball off the bat of the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Nick Ahmed in the bottom of the second. Wolf finished the inning but did not come out to start the third.
Alan Porter moved to home plate from first base, leaving a three-man umpiring crew for the rest of the game.
