RENTON, Wash. (AP) – A person with knowledge of the negotiations says free-agent cornerback Cary Williams intends on signing with the Seattle Seahawks when NFL free agency officially begins.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on Monday night on condition of anonymity because agreements with free agents cannot be announced until the new NFL league year begins on Tuesday.
Bolstering a beat up secondary has become a priority for the Seahawks and Williams fits a need. The Seahawks are expected to lose Byron Maxwell to Philadelphia and have injury concerns regarding Jeremy Lane and Tharold Simon, leaving Seattle thin with arguably its most talented position group headed into next season.
The National Football Post first reported Williams’ decision.
Williams started every game the past four seasons, three of those with Philadelphia. Last season he had 59 tackles and nine passes defensed for the Eagles.
