Buffalo Bills sign receiver/returner Brandon Tate

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) The Buffalo Bills have signed receiver Brandon Tate in the team’s latest bid to upgrade its special teams return position.

Tate was signed Tuesday, a week after being cut by the Bengals. He spent the previous five seasons in Cincinnati, where he was the team’s primary returner.

In Buffalo, Tate gets the opportunity to take over the return job ahead of veteran running back Reggie Bush, who was signed last month. Tate has returned two kickoffs and one punt for touchdowns, and has 57 catches for 901 yards and six touchdowns.

He fills the roster spot left open by fullback Dan Vitale, who was released Sunday after failing his physical.

Buffalo opens the season at Baltimore on Sunday.

The Bills also signed cornerback Marcus Roberson to their practice squad.
