INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – The Colts have waived running back Trent Richardson after two disappointing seasons following a trade that brought the former top-five draft pick from Cleveland.
Richardson rushed for 977 yards and six touchdowns in two seasons with Indianapolis. He played one snap in the playoff opener last season and was inactive in the divisional round against Denver. He didn’t travel to New England for the AFC championship game, which the Patriots won 45-7.
The Colts said Richardson didn’t make the trip for personal reasons.
Acquired for a first-round pick in 2013, Richardson lost the starting job to Daniel Herron late last season. He has 2,032 yards rushing and 17 touchdowns in three seasons after being the third overall draft pick in 2012.
Indianapolis also waived running back Michael Hill on Thursday.
