FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) – They are sisters, but they’re divided by the aisle of a courtroom.
In the murder trial of former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez, his fiancee, Shayanna Jenkins is standing by him.
Her younger sister, Shaneah, sits with the family of her boyfriend, Odin Lloyd, the man Hernandez is accused of killing.
Shaneah Jenkins testified against Hernandez last week. Her sister attended her cross-examination.
The two barely made eye contact. Shayanna occasionally scribbled notes as her sister spoke and shared them with the defense team.
At one point, prosecutors played surveillance video from inside Hernandez’s home that showed the sisters in a long hug after Shaneah learned from police that Lloyd was dead. As she watched, Shayanna wiped away a tear.
It’s not yet clear if Shayanna will testify. Prosecutors say they might call her.
