HACKENSACK, N.J. (AP) A lawsuit alleging Eli Manning and the New York Giants sold bogus memorabilia to collectors is headed to trial this month in New Jersey.
Memorabilia dealer Eric Inselberg filed the suit in 2014 claiming Manning’s backup helmet from the 2012 Super Bowl he bought and another helmet bought by another collector were frauds.
Inselberg and other memorabilia dealers were the subject of a federal investigation, though the case against him eventually was dropped.
Inselberg released emails last year that he said demonstrated Manning and the Giants’ equipment staff conspired to pass off the bogus equipment as game-used.
Manning has denied the allegations, and his attorney has said the email in question was taken out of context and didn’t prove anything illegal occurred.
A trial is scheduled for May 14.
