Boyle lifts Rangers over Senators in 2-1 shootout win

OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) Ottawa native Dan Boyle scored the shootout winner as the New York Rangers defeated the Ottawa Senators 2-1 on Saturday.

Chris Kreider scored the lone goal in regulation for the Rangers, which has won eight in a row and earned a point in 12 straight games.

Henrik Lundqvist stopped 22 shots for his tenth win of the season.

Erik Karlsson scored the only goal for the Senators as Craig Anderson made 33 saves.

In overtime, Ottawa’s Mike Hoffman hit the post twice and the Rangers’ Rick Nash hit the post as well.

The Rangers outshot the Senators 10-7 in the second period and nearly took the lead in its final seconds, but Anderson stopped Mats Zuccarello to preserve the 1-1 tie.

The teams exchanged power-play goals in the first period. Kreider opened the scoring at 2:31 as he tipped Kevin Hayes’ shot past Anderson.

Ottawa tied the game four minutes later when Karlsson finished off a nice passing series to beat Lundqvist.

The Senators held a moment of silence and played France’s national anthem before the start of the game to honor those killed in Friday’s terrorist attacks in Paris.

Nathan MacKinnon scored twice 13 seconds apart in Colorado’s three-goal first period as the Avalanche jumped on a shaky Mike Condon to beat the Montreal Canadiens 6-1.

Mikhail Grigorenko, filling in on the top line for the suspended Gabriel Landeskog, had a goal and set up both of MacKinnon’s scores. Reto Berra stopped 39 shots.

Blake Comeau, Matt Duchene and John Mitchell also scored for Colorado.

Cory Schneider made 21 stops for his first shutout of the season and Mike Cammalleri had a goal and two assists, leading the New Jersey Devils to a commanding 4-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

David Schlemko, Bobby Farnham and Lee Stempniak also scored for surprising New Jersey, which has won four of five. Adam Henrique added two assists.

Schneider was only tested only a handful of times in his 17th career shutout. He had a nice save with his blocking pad on Penguins center Sidney Crosby, who has only two goals in 17 games.

James Reimer made 43 saves and the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Vancouver Canucks 4-2 for its third straight victory.

James van Riemsdyk, Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau, Shawn Matthias and Joffrey Lupul also scored for Toronto.

Jannik Hansen and Alexandre Burrows scored for Vancouver, and Ryan Miller made 36 saves.

Patrick Kane scored the tiebreaking goal late in the second period to extend his points streak to 12 games and lead the Chicago Blackhawks to a 4-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues.

Patrice Bergeron scored the first of Boston’s three second-period goals that lifted the Bruins to a 3-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings and William Karlsson scored his first two goals of the season and Columbus beat the Arizona Coyotes 5-2.

Also Saturday, the San Jose Sharks edged the Buffalo Sabres 2-1, the Nashville Predators thrashed the Winnipeg Jets 7-0, the Dallas Stars beat the Minnesota Wild 3-2, and the Los Angeles Kings topped the Edmonton Oilers 4-3.
