VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) Montreal’s record winning streak to start the season ended on Tuesday with a 5-1 loss at Vancouver.
The Canadiens had set an NHL record with nine straight regulation wins to start the year, and was one victory from tying the best start in league history set by the 1993-94 Toronto Maple Leafs and the 2006-07 Buffalo Sabres, but Jared McCann’s two goals led the Canucks to a comfortable win.
Elsewhere, early-season Western Conference leader Dallas rallied from a three-goal deficit to beat Anaheim, St. Louis had a shutout win against Tampa Bay and Los Angeles extended its winning streak to six games by downing Winnipeg.
Vancouver had lost its previous four games and was yet to win on home ice this season, but the goals from McCann, Luca Sbisa, Radim Vrbata and Derek Dorsett gave the Canucks an upset victory.
Torrey Mitchell scored the sole goal for the Canadiens.
Dallas’ Antoine Roussel scored with 1:28 to play to complete the Stars’ comeback 4-3 win against Anaheim.
Patrick Sharp, Cody Eakin and John Klingberg scored in the second period for Dallas, which trailed 3-0 after one.
Anaheim, which has lost eight of its first nine games, entered with just six goals this season but began brought as Mike Santorelli, Shawn Horcoff and Carl Hagelin scored in the final 5:16 of the first period.
St. Louis goaltender Jake Allen stopped 26 shots for his sixth career shutout, leading the Blues to a 2-0 win against Tampa Bay.
The Blues beat the Lightning for the sixth time in the past seven meetings.
Scott Gomez scored his first goal with the Blues, and Troy Brouwer added an empty-net goal with 41 seconds remaining.
Los Angeles’ Milan Lucic snapped a tie at 15:19 of the third, and the in-form Kings defeated Winnipeg 4-1.
