PREDICTION: ANAHEIM , TORONTO
Oddsmakers currently have the TORONTO listed as -120-moneyline favorites versus the ANAHEIM, while the game’s total is sitting at 5.5.
The Toronto Maple Leafs got off to a rough start on their four-game road trip but look to sweep the California portion when they visit the offensively challenged Anaheim Ducks on Friday. Toronto suffered a 5-1 loss at Boston on Saturday but has bounced back with victories in Los Angeles and San Jose, giving it five wins in its last six overall contests.
Kasperi Kapanen scored a pair of goals in Thursday’s 5-3 triumph over the Sharks, ending his seven-game drought while eclipsing the career high of seven he set last season. While the Maple Leafs have scored at least five goals in three of their last four contests, Anaheim has registered a total of two over its last three games. The Ducks, who were blanked 5-0 in Vegas on Wednesday, have yet to net more than three tallies in a contest this month and haven’t surpassed that amount since posting a 4-1 home victory over the New York Islanders on Oct. 17. Anaheim is in the midst of a stretch during which it plays 11 of 13 games at home and is 3-2-2 at Honda Center in that span.
TV:Â 10 p.m. ET, TSN4 (Toronto), Prime Ticket (Anaheim)
ABOUT THE MAPLE LEAFS (13-6-0):Â Mitch Marner took the team lead in points (25) on Thursday, moving one ahead of defenseman Morgan Rielly after recording a goal and two assists. John Tavares has been wielding a hot stick of late as he enters Friday with a four-game goal-scoring streak and a run of seven straight contests with a point. The 28-year-old center scored his team-leading 12th goal in the win over the Sharks, giving him five tallies and five assists during his point streak.
ABOUT THE DUCKS (8-9-3):Â Cam Fowler will have to wait a while to get his name etched in the team’s record book as he is slated to undergo facial surgery Friday. The 26-year-old, who is one assist away from tying Scott Niedermayer (204) for the franchise lead among defensemen, suffered a complex right facial fracture involving the cheekbone, orbital bone and upper jaw bone when he was hit in the face with a puck during Monday’s shootout win over Nashville. Rickard Rakell, who leads the team with 13 points, remains in search of his 100th career goal as he is mired in a six-game drought.
OVERTIME
1. Rielly leads all NHL blue-liners with 24 points and is five shy of 200 for his career.
2. Toronto C Nazem Kadri has scored all seven of his goals this season in his last 10 contests.
3. Anaheim RW Jakob Silfverberg has recorded one goal in his last six games and is two away from 100 in the NHL.
PREDICTION:Â Maple Leafs 3, Ducks 1
