Oilers come from 3 goals down to beat Canadiens 4-3

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) Edmonton stormed back from a three-goal deficit and beat NHL-leading Montreal 4-3 on Thursday, with Leon Draisaitl netting his second goal of the game with 1:02 left to secure the victory.

It capped a big day for Draisaitl, who was called up from minor-league Bakersfield earlier in the day, missed the team’s morning skate, and was put straight into the Oilers team.

Among other results, Carolina downed the New York Islanders in overtime, Pittsburgh narrowly won to extend its run of victories over Buffalo, and New Jersey continued its strong road form with a win at Philadelphia.

Montreal started the season with a record nine straight wins. After that run ended in the previous game, the Canadiens looked like immediately returning to winning ways when Brendan Gallagher, Torrey Mitchell and Alex Galchenyuk all scored in the first period to put the visitors up 3-0.

Brandon Davidson, Benoit Pouliot and Draisaitl pulled the Oilers level, and the winner came when Ryan Nugent-Hopkins fed it out front to Draisaitl for his second of the contest.

Carolina’s Ron Hainsey scored at 2:21 of overtime to lift the Hurricanes over the Islanders 3-2.

Brock McGinn and Chris Terry scored in regulation for Carolina.

The winner came when Hainsey took a pass from Jordan Staal and slid the puck past the Islanders goalie near the midpoint of the extra period. Terry had tied the score with 5:04 left in the third, finishing off a slick passing play with Eric and Jordan Staal.

Matt Martin and Frans Nielsen scored for New York.

Pittsburgh’s Evgeni Malkin scored his fourth of the season on the power play, helping the Penguins down Buffalo 4-3.

Pascal Dupuis, Patric Hornqvist and Ben Lovejoy all scored their first of the season and Malkin added an assist for Pittsburgh, which has won seven straight over the Sabres. Malkin has four goals and nine points in his last seven games.

Penguins goalie Jeff Zatkoff made 50 saves in his first outing of the season.

Jamie McGinn, Nicolas Deslauriers and Matt Moulson scored for Buffalo

New Jersey’s Travis Zajac scored twice in a 4-1 win at Philadelphia.

Kyle Palmieri had a goal and two assists while Andy Greene scored an empty-net goal with 6.7 seconds left for the Devils, who won their fourth straight on the road.

Luke Schenn scored for the Flyers.

Colorado ended a run of four successive losses by winning 2-1 at Tampa Bay, with Alex Tanguay and Nathan MacKinnon each contributing a goal and an assist.

Dallas’ Jamie Benn scored midway through overtime and to complete a comeback 4-3 win against Vancouver.

Winnipeg goalie Michael Hutchinson stopped 45 shots to help the Jets beat Chicago 3-1.

St. Louis’ Colton Parayko broke a tie about midway through the third period to lift the Blues over Anaheim 2-1.
