Panthers sign Huberdeau to 2-year deal, avoid holdout

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) The Florida Panthers signed left wing Jonathan Huberdeau to a two-year contract Thursday, one day before the team opens training camp.

Huberdeau led the Panthers with 54 points last season. Panthers general manager Dale Tallon said the deal is ”very fair” for both sides.

Huberdeau had been working out in Montreal, was arriving later Thursday for preseason physicals and will be on the ice for the first practice Friday morning.

He finished last season on a line with Jaromir Jagr and Aleksander Barkov. In 58 games before Jagr arrived, Huberdeau had 33 points. In the 21 games after Jagr joined the Panthers, he had 21 points – 6 goals and 15 assists.

The Miami Herald first reported the signing.
