BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) The Buffalo Sabres have loaned forward Matt Moulson to the Ontario Reign of the American Hockey League.
General manager Jason Botterill announced the move Tuesday, hours after Moulson cleared waivers. Ontario is the top minor league affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings.
Moulson has no points in 14 games this season. The 34-year-old is in the fourth season of a $25 million, five-year contract.
Botterill said Moulson was assigned to the Reign instead of Buffalo’s AHL team, the Rochester Americans, because the Sabres didn’t want to take away from young players’ ice time there. Moulson played parts of two seasons earlier in his career for the Kings.
Moulson remains property of the Sabres and counts $3.975 million against their salary cap while in the minors.
