WASHINGTON (AP) Capitals goalie Alex Ovechkin scored his 484th NHL goal, passing Sergei Fedorov’s record for most by a Russian-born player, but the Dallas Stars bounced back to beat Washington 3-2 Thursday.
Ovechkin’s goal came at 7:01 of the third period, knotting the score at 2. He converted a backhand pass from Nicklas Backstrom, shoving the puck into the left side of the net.
Just more than 4 minutes later, Jason Spezza converted a turnover by Washington’s Jason Chimera into the go-ahead score.
Ovechkin scored No. 484 in his 777th game; Fedorov had 483 goals in 1,248 games.
Dallas has won eight straight against the Capitals, including five in a row in Washington. Kari Lehtonen stopped 33 shots for the Stars, improving to 9-1 this season.
Tyler Seguin and Cody Eakin also scored for Dallas.
Tampa Bay’s Valtteri Filppula scored a short-handed goal to break a deadlock late in the third period as the Rays ended the New York Rangers’ nine-game winning streak with a 2-1 victory.
In their first meeting since the Lightning beat the Rangers in Game 7 of last season’s Eastern Conference final, Filppula scored with 1:05 to play off a 2-on-1 pass from J.T. Brown.
Tampa Bay also got a goal from Alex Killorn.
In St. Louis, Alexander Steen scored the only goal in a shoutout and Jake Allen made 32 saves to lift the Blues over the Buffalo Sabres 3-2.
The Blues have won seven straight and 17 of 19 against Buffalo since 1999.
Kevin Shattenkirk and Vladimir Tarasenko scored power-play goals in regulation for the Blues, who had lost three of four.
The Arizona Coyotes edged the Montreal Canadiens 3-2 after Martin Hanzal and Shane Doan scored in the first period.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson also scored for the Coyotes, who lost their previous two games.
In other games, Melker Karlsson scored 3:45 into overtime and Martin Jones made 34 saves as the San Jose Sharks beat the Philadelphia Flyers, the Boston Bruins downed the Minnesota Wild 4-2, the Pittsburgh Penguins overcame the Colorado Avalanche 4-3, the Anaheim Ducks downed the Florida Panthers 3-1 and the Ottawa Senators were 3-0 winners over the Columbus Blue Jackets.
