PREDICTION: SAN JOSE , MINNESOTA

Oddsmakers currently have the MINNESOTA listed as 135-moneyline favorites versus the SAN JOSE, while the game’s total is sitting at 5.5.

The surging Minnesota Wild try for their seventh straight victory over San Jose when they visit the Sharks on Tuesday. Minnesota has won seven of its last eight games, including a 5-1 victory against the Blues on Saturday that made the Wild 2-1-0 on a franchise-record seven-game road trip which continues with three in California and concludes with a return trip to St. Louis on Sunday.

“That was about as good of a team win as I think we’ve had all season,” Wild center Eric Staal told reporters after scoring his 400th career goal. “We will try to continue this on the road (this) week.” San Jose improved to 1-1-1 on its four-game homestand with a 4-3 victory over Philadelphia on Saturday on Timo Meier’s overtime goal – his second of the game. “He’s been great,” Sharks coach Pete DeBoer told reporters about Meier, who has a club-most 11 goals this season and eight in his last seven games. “Thankfully he’s off to the start he’s off to. We need him. We needed somebody to step up.” Minnesota has swept San Jose in the last two season series with Staal recording four tallies in each three-game set.

Nick Seeler scored his first career goal and added two assists Saturday in his 35th NHL game, telling reporters: “It’s nice to have that first one go in.” Devan Dubnyk (6-2-2, 2.07 goals-against average, .937 save percentage) has yielded two or fewer goals in seven games and is 10-8-2, 2.89, .909 in his career versus the Sharks.

ABOUT THE SHARKS (7-4-3): Joe Thornton scored his first goal of the season Saturday in his third game since missing nine with an infection in his right knee, telling reporters: “I feel better. It’s a work in progress.” Tomas Hertl (five goals, 14 points) left Saturday’s game with a head injury and is questionable to play Tuesday. Brent Burns (397 career assists) leads the team with 13 assists and, like Meier and Logan Couture (five goals, seven assists during a nine-game point streak), has a club-high 16 points.
