EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (AP) New England’s Stephen Gostkowski’ kicked a 54-yard field goal with 1 second remaining to give the Patriots a 27-26 victory at the New York Giants on Sunday, extending their unbeaten streak to start the season to nine games.
Quarterback Tom Brady completed a pass on a fourth-and-ten play during the final drive which got the ball just within Gostkowski’s range for a dramatic winner.
The Patriots and Carolina are the only teams with perfect 9-0 records, with the Panther having a more comfortable victory at Tennessee.
Elsewhere, Kansas City’s defense dominated Denver quarterback Peyton Manning and beat the Broncos, Arizona padded its lead in the NFC West Conference with victory at Seattle, and Adrian Peterson led Minnesota to top spot in the NFC North as the Vikings won at Oakland.
The Giants looked to have ended New England’s perfect record when Odelll Beckham took the ball in the end-zone for an apparent touchdown but it was overturned after video review.
New York had to settle for a Josh Brown field goal which put them ahead with 1:47 remaining, but there was still time for Brady to drive the Patriots 44 yards to set up Gostkowski’s winner.
Carolina quarterback Cam Newton completed his first 11 passes – the longest streak of his career – to set up a 27-10 win at Tennessee.
The Panthers extended their league-best winning streak to 13 games, dating back to last season, as Newton ran for a touchdown and passed for another score.
The Titans were held scoreless in the second half and suffered their 10th straight home loss, in the first home game under interim coach Mike Mularkey.
Kansas City shut down Manning, making five interceptions and kicking five field goals to cruise to a 29-13 win at the Broncos.
Manning entered the day with 71,836 yards through the air, 2 shy of Brett Favre’s record and tied with Favre with 186 victories.
He finished the day with just 35 yards on 5-of-20 passing – enough to break the passing record – with four interceptions, two sacks and an almost unheard-of zero passer rating which saw the future Hall-of-Famer to be benched in the third quarter.
The Broncos saw their nine-game AFC West winning streak come to an end with their first loss to the Chiefs since 2011.
Arizona quarterback Carson Palmer threw for 363 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Cardinals to a 39-32 win at Seattle.
Palmer helped the Cardinals build leads of 19-0 and 22-7 at halftime, only to watch Seattle rally and take a 29-25 lead early in the fourth quarter on Bobby Wagner’s 22-yard fumble return.
Undaunted by losing the lead, Palmer led the Cardinals on an 83-yard drive, capped by a 14-yard touchdown pass to Jermaine Gresham with 8:41 remaining. The Cardinals held Seattle on its next possession and Andre Ellington added the punctuation, sprinting down the sideline on a 48-yard third-down run to win it.
Minnesota’s Adrian Peterson ran for 203 yards and a touchdown in his record-tying sixth career 200-yard game as the Vikings won 30-14 at Oakland.
Cordarrelle Patterson returned a kick 93 yards for a score as Minnesota won their fifth straight game and moved a game above Green Bay in the fight for the NFC North.
Green Bay slipped back after a 18-16 defeat at the hands of Detroit; ending a run of 24 consecutive home wins against the Lions.
Matthew Stafford threw for two touchdowns and 242 yards as Detroit notched only its second win this season.
They almost gave it away though when Calvin Johnson fumbled an offside kick with 31 seconds left, allowing the Packers a shot at a field goal to win it, but Mason Crosby missed his 52-yard attempt.
Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger started the game against Cleveland on the bench to rest an injured foot but came on to throw for 379 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Steelers past the Browns 30-9.
Miami’s Chris McCain knocked Philadelphia’s Sam Bradford and Reshad Jones intercepted a potential touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter to give the Dolphins a 20-19 win against the Eagles.
Chicago’s Zach Miller caught two touchdown passes, including an 87-yard score that was Chicago’s longest play for five years, and rookie Jeremy Langford also had two TDs as the Bears beat St. Louis 37-13.
Washington’s Kirk Cousins threw for a career-high four touchdowns – each one longer than any scoring pass he’d completed all season – to lead the Redskins past New Orleans 47-14.
Jacksonville’s Jason Myers kicked a 53-yard field goal after the Jaguars got one final play on a facemask penalty with no time left, and the visitors won 22-20 at Baltimore to end their 13-game road losing streak.
Tampa Bay quarterback Jameis Winston scored on a 1-yard quarterback run with 54 seconds remaining, giving the Buccaneers a 10-6 win against Dallas, extending the Cowboys’ longest losing streak since 1989 to seven games.
